Welcome to the ‘The Hungry Caterpillars’ Reception/Nursery Class page. My name is Mr Harrington and I am delighted to introduce you to our practises and support staff which aid our pupils’ developmental progress.

Welcome to the class page of EYFS B – The Hungry Caterpillars. My name is Mr Harrington and I am delighted to introduce you to our practises and support staff which aids our pupils’ developmental progress.

 

We are lucky to have a fantastic team to assist learning throughout the school day:

I believe what we learn through fun we never forget. This is why we provide provision which is safe, fun, reflects the interests of the children and encourages exploration and problem solving. To support this we use a fiction book each week as a focus, such as classics like “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”” and undiscovered gems like “The Hundred Decker Bus.” Each half-term we also have a topic theme. For example, Autumn’s theme is “Me, My Family and Bungay.”

 

Our class works in sync with our partner Foundation Stage class: EYFS A – The Busy Spiders. Each class has a mixture of nursery and reception age children. Once the children have been registered in their class they will be able access provision and group activities that are tailored to their specific learning needs. This means that a child could be embarking on activities with their friends from the other foundation class if they have similar learning needs.

 

All of our provision is differentiated to each unique child’s abilities which aids them to progress through Development Matters: The foundation stage curriculum. It is important to remember that each child develops in a different way and some children make progress at a slower or faster rate than others through the curriculum. The areas of learning covered in Development Matters are:

 

  • Physical Development
  • Personal Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Maths
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

 

The due to the nature of a topic area, such as personal social and emotional development, some specific development points may not always be exhibited by a child at school. This is why we love to have close links to parents and carers. This helps to create collaborative partnerships which shares all of the wonderful learning our children exhibit.
