This half term we are learning about Ourselves, this is a fantastic topic to help the children settle into their new classes, make new friends and learn about the skills they have as well as thinking of aspirations for the future.

The Foundation Stage

This is a very important year for children, where they will learn many new skills from leaving their parents, making new friends, learning letters sounds, how to count and recognise numbers to being independent at dressing, using their bodies to move in different ways through being active and being creative. All of our learning takes place both indoors and outdoors and is carried out in a very fun and practical way.

Week commencing 15th October 2018

This week the Nursery children will be engaging in making some Halloween cakes which they will bring home. They will also be continuing to go on sound walks and learning how to hold a pencil correctly. The number of the week for Nursery is 2, their shape they are focusing on is a square and their colour of the week is yellow.

Reception’s book of the week is ‘I Can Be Anything’ this is a book about aspirations for the future and helping children to believe in themselves. Children will be learning about rhyming this week and matching words that rhyme. In Maths they will be matching quantities of objects to numerals. Reception will be learning these sounds this week- ck, e, u, i.  Alongside the sounds they will also learn some new words, they are- get, got, put, back, the, to.

On Monday 15th October the Reception children received a ‘green phonic book’ please support your child in reading the words in this book and if they wish to they can write them in the space underneath. Each week new words will be added.

Please remember to practise the sound they learnt that day in school which will be sent home in their sound pack.

There’s always reading too!!   “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”     Dr Seuss

Please remember that this week we have the Oral Health team coming in on Wednesday 17th October to talk to the children about brushing their teeth. Children need to being in a tooth brush for this event.

Thursday 18th October is the last day of the half term so children DO NOT come to school on Friday. Thursday they can come to school in Halloween fancy dress and then enjoy the school disco after school in the hall. Tickets must be purchased before the event so please see the school office for tickets.
