Reception

Overview

This half term we are learning about a range of Celebrations, this topic will cover Halloween, Guy Fawkes, Diwali, Birthdays and Christmas. The children will look at similarities and differences between Celebrations that we take part in and Celebrations in other Countries. It will also support them in asking questions about the World in which we live in.

The Foundation Stage

This is a very important year for children, where they will learn many new skills from leaving their parents, making new friends, learning letters sounds, how to count and recognise numbers to being independent at dressing, using their bodies to move in different ways through being active and being creative. All of our learning takes place both indoors and outdoors and is carried out in a very fun and practical way.

Week commencing 26th November 2018

This weeks focus is on the ‘Nativity’ children will learn about the story behind Christmas and learn more about their characters they are performing as in our Christmas play.

In English we will be writing a letter to Father Christmas focusing on the features of a letter, letter formation, writing on a line and hearing sounds in the words that we are writing.

In Maths the children will be engaging in a number recognition game. Children will have to find the correct numerals to order numbers 1-10 or 10-20. This game will also support them in turn taking.

In Phonics we are recapping the sounds we have already learnt but focusing on the formation of each letter and we will all practise writing them in our phonic books.

Homework

Please support your child in writing their name on the laminate sheet in which we sent home at the beginning of the week.

Please continue to re-cap the sounds we have learnt in school using the sound cards we have sent home. Also encourage your child to read and form the words we have sent home in the green books.

If your child has lines to say in our Christmas play please practise these with and without the words on paper in a loud voice.

There’s always reading too!!   “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”     Dr Seuss
