Reception

Reception is taught by Mrs Lewis

Reception follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum.

The Early Years Foundation Stage starts from birth to 5 years old.

The EYFS is divided into three prime areas and four specific areas.

The three prime areas are: PSED - Personal Social and Emotional Development,

PD - Physical Development, CL - Communication and Language.

The Four Specific areas are: L - Literacy, M - Maths, UW - Understanding the World, EAD - Expressive Art and Design.

Each day the children have the opportunity to learn and explore both inside our engaging environment developing each area of the EYFS curriculum.  We support the children in their play as well as gradually introducing them to more formal lessons.

Before the children start their Reception year we begin a thorough transition process to support them and their families as they begin this stage of their learning journey.

Throughout the year the children work towards the Early Learning Goals and in the Summer term we prepare them for the transition into Year One.

Each day we provide the children with a healthy morning snack and the choice of milk or water.  If you wish to provide your child with a healthy snack you are welcome to do so, however, please remember we are a no nut school.

Reception children are entitled to daily free school meals, details of the choices are on the website.

The Reception children also learn through Cornerstones topics and each week the learning is based around a Book which is linked to the topic.

Phonics

The Reception children learn phonics through the Twinkl scheme.

Tapestry

Reception uses Tapestry, this is an online Learning Journal that documents the children’s learning.  Both staff and parents/carers contribute to the learning journal which parents/carers can download at the end of the Reception year.
