Pupil are equipped with the scientific skills required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
Pupils increase their Science Capital throughout their time with us
We encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their education. The Science curriculum enables them to be curious and to respect the living and non-living. Key skills in Science are mapped out for each year group and are progressive throughout the school. The curriculum is designed to ensure that children are able to acquire key scientific knowledge through practical experiences; using equipment, conducting experiments, taking on others points of views and explaining concepts confidently. Cross curricular opportunities are identified, mapped and planned for and visitors are encouraged and welcomed. Children are encouraged to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings and adopt a love of science.
Teachers create a positive attitude to science learning within their classroom and reinforce high expectations. Our whole school approach to this subject involves the following:-
Science is taught in topic blocks which is taken from the scheme ‘Cornerstones’.
Science can be taught at any time as part of a topic or stand alone lessons.
Existing knowledge is checked at the beginning of each topic.
