The generic unit is set within the main school building and caters for 12 children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) of Reception age through to the end of Key Stage 1.
The dedicated and nurturing team comprises of a lead teacher, a HLTA and three TAs who together have a wide range of specialist experience and knowledge, but who will also undertake targeted CPD to meet the needs of our individual learners. We also work closely with a number of outside agencies, including Special Education Services (SES), Speech and Language (SALT), Occupational Therapists (OT) and the school nursing team as is needed.
The ‘Sunflowers’ unit sits at the heart of our school, with direct access to a large, dedicated outdoor space and sensory room.
The school day begins at 9am and finishes at 3pm, with children being transported either by Local Authority taxi or accompanied by their Parent/Carer.
Children arrive at the front office where they are greeted by a member of the team.
The children who are a part of the unit are expected to wear our uniform. More information on our school uniform can be found here.
The bespoke curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of the individual child and will work on the child’s interests, skills and EHCP targets and is created to enable each pupil to reach their full potential. There is a mix of continuous provision and small group/individual teaching. Our Sunflowers flourish and grow, under the guidance of their amazing team of adults.
If you have any questions or queries regarding our Specialist Unit, 'Sunflowers', please speak to our SENCo and the setting's key contact, Mrs Gooderham, who would be delighted to hear from you.
