Year 2 are taught by Mrs Bareham.
In Year 2, we build upon the transition from Year 1, moving towards more independent learning, gathering and applying all of our skills from our school journey. There is still a large emphasis on practical learning, encouraging the children to be curious and guide their own learning, using strategies that work for them as individuals.
Pupils are greeted on the door by their teacher and they enter the classroom with an early morning activity.
Each day the children take part in a Writing lesson, where they are taught to develop their writing skills, using a range of creative stimuli to inspire them. They apply these grammatical skills to compose complete pieces of writing, across a range of text types.
We have a daily reading session where we build the children’s fluency whilst promoting a love of reading. Later in the week children will answer a variety of comprehension questions about their text, using the core VIPERS skills. We continue to build on the children’s phonic knowledge, embedding their sounds and learning further spelling patterns.
We also have a daily Maths lesson using a range of resources and strategies to support the children in becoming confident mathematicians.
In the afternoon we concentrate on foundation subjects such as Topic, Computing, PE and Art. We regularly have cross-curricular days, for example focusing on RE or DT, to fully immerse pupils in their learning. Each week also involves a visit to our amazing school library.
The topics we cover over the year are:
Autumn - Movers and Shakers (History)
Spring - Coastline (Geography)
Summer - Magnificent Monarchs (History)
