Year 6 are taught by Mrs Schultheiss on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Mrs Newton on a Monday and Tuesday.
In year 6, the focus is on teamwork, consolidation of primary school skills and getting ready for the next step of school life: high school. Year 6 is an especially important year for the children and we strive to provide them all with the support that they need to prepare them for their next steps.
Mornings are typically structured with reading, writing and maths lessons ensuring the children have the skills necessary before the move up. Topic lessons in the afternoon cover the rest of the curriculum in a practical and stimulating way and equip the children with a broad and balanced curriculum.
In Year 6, a topic is taught per term:
Britain at War
This project teaches the children about the causes, events and consequences of the First and Second World Wars, the influence of new inventions on warfare, how life in Great Britain was affected and the legacy of the wars in the post-war period.
Frozen Kingdoms
This project develops the children’s knowledge of polar regions. It also teaches them about the interconnections of this extreme ecosystem and how humans and animals seek to conquer it.
Maafa
This project teaches children about Africa past and present and the development of the slave trade. It also explores Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, the causes and consequences of the European colonisation of Africa and the worldwide communities that make up the African diaspora.
The children are also able to take part in many exciting events and activities outside of the curriculum. To name just a few, they take part in a term of swimming at the local swimming pool where they can gain certificates in this vital skill. In the summer term, the children have the opportunity to attend a residential trip; Eaton Vale. During this term, the children take part in an end of primary school assembly and leavers’ production performed in front of friends and family.
Our Year 6 class have their PE day on a Wednesday.
On a Friday afternoon, our Year 6 class have an amazing outdoor learning session where they are able to gain experience of fire making, den building and water filtration among many other fantastic survival skills.

To support us to embed our love of reading across school, we encourage you to listen to your child read and sign their reading log at least three times a week. These reading logs are checked on a regular basis.
New spellings are sent home on a Friday and are tested the following Friday.
