At Bungay Primary School, we strive in helping our children become respectful and culturally aware individuals. Every child has the autonomy to their own beliefs and our Religious Education learning does not try to persuade, but instead simply increase the children’s awareness alongside enabling them to gain a greater understanding of different religions, cultures and beliefs from around the world.
Our school follows ‘The Emmanuel Project’ which meets the requirements of the new Suffolk Agreed Syllabus 2023.
The Emmanuel Project is based on clear theological concepts where the children are given the opportunity to learn about Christianity and six other religions: Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Humanism.
Our children are able to make key connections between the different religions by using the following threads: belonging, believing, prayer and worship, celebrations, stories and books, symbols and artefacts and leaders and teachers.
Our Religious Education learning is not just limited to the classroom but also embedded within our community as we have a close connection with Holy Trinity Church in Bungay. We are also very fortunate to have our local Reverend visit our school monthly to join in our assemblies and we regularly join together to celebrate festivals such as Harvest, Christmas and Easter at the Church.
Harvest Festival 2024
We had a wonderful trip to the church for Harvest Festival. The morning included a meaningful sermon from Ed Land, beautiful singing of two of our Harvest songs and some incredible readings from some of our Year 6 pupils.
This was followed by each of the children walking up to the pew to give their offering. We left an incredible amount of food ready to be sent to the local food bank so thank you to all of our families for your donations - this will make such a difference in our local community.
