Year 3 are taught by Miss Smith (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and by Mrs Flatt (Wednesdays). The learning within the classroom is supported by Mrs Reed.
Year 3 is a significant transitional year, so we recognise how important it is to support that journey from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. We prepare the children to acquire more independent and efficient strategies, whilst allowing them plenty of opportunities for practical and hands-on learning too.
Each day, our morning timetable follows the same routine. We have our English lesson followed by our Reading lesson. After break, we move on to Mental maths and then our Maths lesson. Our afternoons are focused on the foundation subjects: History, Geography, Art and D.T., Science, Music and Computing. We also have a weekly outdoor learning session, where we learn about caring for our environment and key life skills.
We start the Autumn term by learning about ‘Through the Ages’. This project teaches children about British prehistory from the Stone Age to the Iron Age, including changes to people and lifestyle caused by ingenuity, invention and technological advancement.
In the Spring term, we begin learning about ‘Rocks, Relics and Rumbles’.
This project teaches children about the features and characteristics of Earth's layers, including a detailed exploration of volcanic, tectonic and seismic activity.
Then in the Summer term, we begin learning about ‘Emperors and Empires’
This project teaches children about the history and structure of ancient Rome and the Roman Empire, including a detailed exploration of the Romanisation of Britain.
This year the children have been very fortunate to have visits from Stem ambassadors, learning workshops and even a Roman dress up day to support their learning and enable them to really immerse in every topic!
In Year 3 pupils are able to work towards earning a handwriting pen. They can achieve this by writing with consistently joined cursive handwriting for at least two weeks!
Our Year 3 class have their PE session on a Friday. You can find out more information on our PE sessions here.
They also spend time in our beautiful school library weekly as we embed our love of reading throughout school.
On a Wednesday, our Year 3 class take part in an exciting outdoor learning session. You can find out more information about our outdoor learning sessions here.
