At Bungay Primary School, each class has a local artist that is relevant to the learning that they are doing in their Art lessons.
In EYFS, the children have a book of the week so their artist is also an illustrator.
Nursery has been learning about Mandy Stanley who is an illustrator, author and designer who has published more than 200 picture, story and activity books for children.
Reception’s artist is Edward Ardizzone who was a painter, printmaker and war artist and the author and illustrator of books, many of them for children.
Year 1 have been learning about childhood and their artist is Peggy Sommerville who was a child prodigy who learned to paint from a very young age.
The artist that Year 2 are focusing on is John Morley who loves to paint the plants from his garden as well as the East Anglian Landscapes which has supported their learning about creating still life.
Year 3 have been focusing on working in 3D and their artist is Laurence Edwards, a sculptor who has exhibited on Lowestoft beach as part of the First Light Festival.
Year 4 have been exploring warm and cool colours and their artist is Keiron Williamson who is a watercolour, oil and pastel artist from north Norfolk.
Year 5 have been exploring line and printmaking through their artist Gwen Raverat.
Year 6 have been learning all about distortion, abstraction and interpretation. Their artist is Denisa Mansfield.
The Year 6 children have been on an amazing journey during their exploration of their artist and her work. Year 6 took their research further and managed to make contact with Denisa Mansfield who very kindly agreed to come and spend the day with us. Denisa has been extremely generous and not only gave the Year 6 answers to their questions, but she has given her time in the form of a bespoke art session to create a fantastic collaborative piece.
Denisa has also donated the stunning piece of art called Poetica Noctis which Bungay Primary will proudly display for everyone to be inspired by. During an assembly on Year 6’s special day, the whole school was inspired by Denisa and her work and were able to ask her questions and say how Poetica Noctis made them feel or what it made them think about.
